THE SCRAPBOOK

Though my responsibilities as president of this firm require significant amounts of time and attention as administrator, reviewer, and book buyer, my greatest joy is as the day-to-day book salesperson who calls on school and public libraries.  I meet the nicest people in America who practice their profession at fine libraries all over the country.  It is my pleasure to introduce you to a few of them.

Our intention is to fill The Scrapbook with new people and places every month or so, and we would be glad to have your suggestions.

Meet Mr. Denny Hoff, (shown below) who agreed to have his town and Media Center be the first to be highlighted in the West Circle Books Scrapbook.

WARSAW COMMUNITY HIGH SCHOOL MEDIA CENTER, WARSAW, INDIANA Mr. Denny Hoff, Corporation Director of Media Services

Located in north central Indiana, Warsaw is a small but growing community of 12,735 people.  To the casual observer who passes by at 60 miles per hour on U.S. Route 30, Warsaw looks like any number of little Indiana towns.

While agriculture is certainly a major force economically and occupationally, Warsaw is also an important destination technologically.  The town is very well known in the medical profession because cutting edge research and development of the very latest, high-tech orthopedic appliances are designed and manufactured here.

Above the circulation desk, a three-story atrium dominates the media center’s interior

Every community that supports advanced technology business is especially motivated to provide excellent educational opportunities for its young people.  Warsaw Community High School is a large, modern facility with a beautiful campus on the southern edge of town.

The flags of many nations are stationed high above the library floor. Each flag identifies the home country of foreign exchange students who have spent at least a semester attending Warsaw Community High School.

Warsaw is justifiably proud of its handsome high school media center, which includes 29,000 volumes and subscriptions to 7 newspapers and over 110 periodicals.  There are numerous, full-text databases for advanced research, and Follett Destiny automation for catalog and circulation.

The Media Center is the jewel of the high school. From the outside, the library is identified by a large curving expanse of windows.
